The name of the city is derive from the adjective ‘nagoyaka’, meaning peaceful. With over two million inhabitants, Nagoya is Japan’s fourth most populated city. The city is the capital of Aichi Prefecture. Nagoya is also the centre of metropolitan and industry. Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine are Nagoya’s two most famous sightseeing spots. The city is also a starting point for short visits in the surrounding area, such as Inuyama, Meiji Mura, and Arimatsu.
Being the third largest city in Japan, Osaka is also the commercial center of Japan. Literally, Osaka means “large hill” or “large slope”. Osaka often referred to as the “nation’s kitchen” in feudal Edo period because it was the centre of trading for rice, creating the first modern futures exchange market in the world. The city was formerly known as Naniwa and was once Japan’s capital city.
